Position Description: Plan and perform a normal range of operations connected with the assembly and erection of company-produced machines. Responsible for the mechanical assembly of box-making machines comprised of feed, printing, cutter, scorer-slotter sections and related units in accordance with design specifications. Work involves working from complex drawings and a considerable number of component parts that require skill and care to align, fit, and assemble into units and obtain exacting operating performance and appearance. Key Responsibilities/Complexities: • Work from assembly drawings, specifications and instructions to perform work in proper sequences. • Assist with or assemble basic sections of machines as indicated by customer specifications. • Perform basic assembly operations to exacting tolerances; work with rotating shafts, gear trains, mechanical structures, and sprockets. • Use measuring instruments to level and align work, detect and eliminate run-out, work to close tolerances with a demand for square, concentricity and parallelism. • Detect defective material, unusual conditions or operating difficulties and report to proper supervision. • Complete necessary documentation to ensure quality and production requirements. • Participate in team meetings to communicate and help resolve any cost, quality, or production issues. • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Competencies: • Must be able to read blueprints and interpret less complex specifications. • Must have basic understanding of mechanical assembly. • Understand and operate various hand and power tools involved in assembly. • Willingness to assist assembly team with other duties as required. • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills; be able to independently solve problems while interacting with various teams and teammates on daily processes and flow. • Must be capable of multi-tasking various duties throughout the day, have a positive attitude with an ability to be versatile and flexible. Initiative/Ingenuity: Some judgement is required to comply with instructions and standard procedures/practices in order to perform exacting work and to identify safety, cost, quality or delivery opportunities. Makes minor decisions. Supervisory Responsibility: Works under direct supervision; responsible for own work only. Reports To: Assembly Supervisor Work Environment: The Assembler I, Mechanical works in an indoor environment. May be exposed to some dirt and oil, but not continuously to the extent of being disagreeable. Physical Demands: The employee may be required to stand, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and greater than 50 pounds with assistance. Continuous mental and visual attention is necessary to perform various duties requiring constant alertness and activity. Responsibility – Equipment/Materials: Improper use/operation of equipment or thoughtlessness/inattention while handling materials may result in damage to the equipment and injuries and lost time to the employee or others. Incorrect materials or mishandling of parts may result in time and production delays and scrappage of materials. Safety: All safety regulations must be observed. Position Type: This is a regular, full-time position with frequent overtime. All candidates must be willing to work overtime. Travel: Occasional travel is expected for this position. Required Education and Experience: 1. High school diploma or GED. 2. Typically requires 0-2 years’ mechanical or automotive maintenance, repair or assembly experience.
